DriveABLE offers many different products and services to assist in assessment of the elder driver. These tools are designed to identify, assess, improve and evaluate a driver’s abilities. Their computer-based assessment and standardized road course takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. The assessment will measure motor speed & control, span of attention field, spatial judgment & decision making, speed of attention shifting, and identification of driving situations.

A pre-set algorithm determines results, i.e. (1) safe to drive, (2) unsafe to drive or (3) road test suggested. A standardized road test is completed and a final determination about ability to drive safely is made.11

Here are the two products along with descriptions they have provided:11

  • DriveABLE Cognitive Assessment Tool (DCAT) is a touch screen, software solution for identifying drivers with impairments in cognitive abilities relevant for driving. DCAT accurately predicts on-road performance.
  • DriveABLE On-Road Evaluation (DORE) is a specialized on-road evaluation that offers the most accurate science-based determination of whether a medically at-risk driver’s skills have been impaired to an unsafe degree.
