Drivers 55 Plus

Description

The purpose of this self assessment is to help an individual become “activated driver”. The AAA Foundations for Traffic Safety defines an activated driver as “someone who assumes responsibility for his or her own driving skills and who self-examines and compares his or her ability with the requirements for safe driving.” Their goal is to help you gain knowledge and self-awareness. Sometimes difficult decisions have to be made.

With this assessment you can screen yourself to see how safe your driving is, help you assume the responsibility to be a safe driver, and to help you decide if it’s time to give up your driver’s license and take other methods of transportation.

Sample questions include:

Intersections bother me because there is so much to watch from all directions.

  • Always or Almost Always
  • Sometimes
  • Never or Almost Never

I find it difficult to decide when to join traffic on a busy interstate highway.

  • Always or Almost Always
  • Sometimes
  • Never or Almost Never

The self rating assessment will take about 10 minutes. Once you have completed the questions you will be able to identify areas where your physical and mental abilities need a change for safer driving habits and skills. Drivers 55 Plus: Suggestions for Improvement offers suggestions to improve each driving skill highlighted in the questionnaire.22
